Wainscoting can covers up existing damage to the walls in a unique, appealing way and it prevents damage from occurring in the first place such as scuffs and dents from doorknobs, chairs, and people. It also provides insulation, improving your home’s energy efficiency. The material is easy to clean – all it needs is a simple wipe down. Installation is also easy.
While the most commonly used material for wainscoting is wood, there are plastic versions available. Your choice of wainscoting should be based on the rest of the home décor, the complexity of the task, your budget, and the look you are trying to achieve. Our quality interiors create new character, charm & luxury.
There are several finishing options available, depending on your needs. The most common of these are paint and wallpaper, but you can also use a faux finish above a chair rail. If it is made of natural wood, you may either stain or paint it.
Types of Wainscoting
Picture Frame Wainscoting
Picture frame wainscoting is one of our most popular styles. Picture frame wainscoting, also called applique wainscoting, consists of MDF chair rail and panel molding. At VRwoodtrim, we have different moulding options. We secure it by directly nailing it to the wall. The greatest advantages of picture frame wainscoting are its elegant and clean look, its customizable design, affordable yet expensive appearance, and fast, clean installation that takes between 1 and 3 days.
Paneled Wainscoting
Paneled wainscoting, also called recessed panel wainscoting, is made up of panels that cover the entire wall. This is the most traditional type of wainscoting, but it is still suitable for modern interior design. Paneled wainscoting usually takes longer to install compared to picture frame wainscoting because of the more challenging and labour-intensive installation. It is also more expensive. It takes anywhere between 1 and 10 days to complete the installation, depending on the scope of the project. We custom cut paneled wainscoting outside to ensure there is no dust in your home, protecting your furniture, painted surfaces, floors, and ceiling.
Raised Panel wainscoting
Raised panel wainscoting was popular in England throughout the Georgian and Stuart periods. This is the earliest wainscoting style. It consists of panels that are pushed into the room slightly so that it is in front of the rails and styles. It features a very noticeable beveled edge. This remains the most formal wainscot style to date.
Flat Panel Wainscoting
Flat panel wainscoting comprises a flat or recessed panel. This type of wainscoting was developed in North America in the 19th century in Mission-style buildings. These flat or recessed panels are placed a little deeper than the styles and rails, giving it a recessed appearance. There is no molding in use with flat panel wainscoting and the edges of the panels are very obvious.
Beadboard Wainscoting
While most people are familiar with the term wainscoting, many confuse it with beadboard. While the two have many similarities, there is a difference in that while wainscoting is a kind of wood paneling that has been used for centuries, beadboard is a row of narrow wood planks that are lined up vertically, with little indentations called ridges (or beads) in between the wood planks.
Beadboard wainscoting was very popular during the Victorian period, especially for beach houses and informal areas. The rails and styles were quite narrow, but today’s beadboard wainscoting creates a country or casual mood.
