We Offer Modern Finish Carpentry Solutions
Finish carpentry, as the term suggests, is the last step in the carpentry process, meant to make the house feel like a home. It involves the installation of finish trims and woods. It is important that finish carpentry is done well because this is what people see. A certain level of attention to detail and woodworking skills is required to do this right because precision is key. This is where we come in.
Finish carpentry involves the design and installation of:
Windows, doors, and casing (trims around windows and doors)
Custom closets, wall units, & libraries
Wainscoting
Paneling
Arch openings
Baseboards
Fireplaces & bars
Cabinets & shelving
The Process
When you come to us, we will listen to your vision, expectations, and requirements in the initial consultative session. We will request you for dimensions, the house plan (preferably with pictures), and other details that will assist us to make informed decisions. We will ask for your budget as this will determine how the entire process goes, from the materials to use to the type of finishing to use.
In this consultative session, we will lay out the timelines and advise you on available options. We will then allocate the equipment and human resources required for the job. We will then familiarize ourselves with the project before the next stage by doing a site visit and taking the necessary measurements. The consultation is done by a qualified craftsman who will understand exactly what you need and how to translate this into a workable design you will be satisfied with.
The next stage is the design of the finish carpentry. Our team will do comprehensive custom millwork drawings. These drawings are very detailed to ensure that the piece/s are built as per the design. We avoid stock designs because we want every homeowner to have a unique design.
We take great care to avoid errors in the final assembly. Our experienced team combines craftsmanship with industrial work for a truly remarkable finish.
Taking the example of a door to demonstrate this, the steps involved are measuring, cutting, attaching, and repeating. We will set the door, using shims to ensure it is square and level. We will then measure the top casing, ensuring we fit the opening and the reveal which are usually 1/4″ on each side. We will then cut the top casing using a miter saw at 45 degrees angle. We ensure the blade is sharp to give an accurate and clean cut.
Next, we will attach the top casing and ensure it fits tightly to the door jam. Once the top casing is installed, we will then measure the sides. Side casing is installed after the flooring with hard flooring materials like wood and vinyl.
